Though I do agree that Bloat can be somewhat worrying if not handled well, and even the base game roster is a bit bloated as is. It should make him feel a little distinct from those around him, same with Yuan Shao. With 5 new units for Cao Cao, plus the 10 northern army units that means Cao Cao now has 17 unique units, which basically means he can have his own roster practically. Honestly I'm fairly sure that the Northern Army was mainly a way to make it so Yuan Shao and Cao Cao had a roster that was at least a little different and less reform tree heavy than the other factions. I'll keep waiting for the patch notes to see if most of the work in this update went into bug fixing. Personally, none of these new mechanics and updates are doing it for me right now. I do like the Qingzhou Spears and Tiger Cub cavalry though. Perhaps we haven't seen all of the Northern Army units yet, but the fact they're just reused a bunch of Core units is telling. It's just padding to make this update look larger than it is. We had the same thing with the Yellow Turbans in MoH a huge amount of "new" units that weren't anything more than clones of what the YT already had in their core roster. In fact, I can see no difference between Northern Army units and the core units available to all factions, aside from a new name, different armor, and maybe slightly-better stats. As far as I can tell, they're just more of the same as what we have in the core roster. I'm pretty disappointed with the new Northern Army units. I'm presuming this means that they've finally fixed the Child Emperor Escaping bug, a year after it was first reported. I have the familiar feeling this is going to be another shallow, underused mechanic that could have been so much more interesting and useful, but CA didn't bother to explore its full potential. A simple "+1 capacity for X" would be "meh". I hope the buffs and bonuses change with higher tiers too. The new Faction Ranks and Prestige Points system looks cool! Seems like a great way to really specialize your faction, but I would have liked to see a few more options in there in possible. Liu Zhang has some awful traits that make poor as a faction leader, but it could be fun to "mold" him into something better. Not sure what to make the Aspiration and Inheritance mechanics just yet, but they seem interesting. Although I'm not sure how entertaining his faction will be in late game. Liu Yan looks really good, so kudos to that. Maybe let anything happen after the Yuans go into civil war, but not on turn 2. And again, I get that for the base scenario, but I think chapter packs should be more narrative driven. It's like the Chapter Packs are 100% accurate at turn 1 and then whatever happens afterwards. It's MoH all over again, where the Yellow Turbans wreck the Han. But if that video is anything to go off, Cao Cao will just get destroyed, the Yuans will be BFFs and just take over the world. AI Cao Cao should hold AI Yuan Shao off and then there should be a civil war between the Yuans after Shao's death. It's a paid scenario about Guandu and should learn more heavily into the narrative. But with a paid scenario which is about the battle of Guandu, you shouldn't expect to see Cao Cao get ganged up on and wrecked. Now you could argue that Total War is a Sandbox, fair enough. The problem with the Chapter Packs is that they don't have enough scripted events to make the story go more smoothly. Cao Cao is getting absolutely curbstomped because he's surrounded by so many enemies, which will probably happen every campaign. Sun Ce is still alive, which may be randomised, but if AWB is anything to go off then he always be so. I don't want to be negative but a lot of the issues we've seen with chapter packs seem to be raising their head in that video. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.847 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai.
